My name is Jenny Hett (maiden name, Jenny Gottstein) and I am from Lawrence, KS. I graduated from Emporia State University in May 2018 with a BSE in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. I am using that degree to become the best advocate for and educator of students I can be!
As for my experience in the classroom, last year I was teaching at Kansas City International Academy in Northeast Kansas City, Missouri in their 4th/5th sheltered ELL classroom. I had students from all over the world -- Zimbabwe, Sudan, Somalia, Guatemala, etc. All of my students had been in the United States for less than 2 years! We even had some students come to the states mid-school year! It was such a fun experience to teach them and learn from them. ELL is one of my passions in education and I have loved growing as an ELL educator. Back in my college years I spent 3 summers pouring into the lives of over 60 different primary elementary students from the inner cities of Kansas City, Missouri and St. Louis, Missouri through 2 education-based Christian mission summer programs. These summers were the most challenging and most rewarding summers of my life. I believe these summers have made me a better educator and have proved that my passion for education will continue for the rest of my life. Throughout my college years I acquired over 200 hours of experience volunteering in rural and suburban schools, which has given me perspective on many different teaching styles and classroom setups. I student taught in 4th grade at Riverside Elementary in Emporia, KS and in 3rd grade at Walnut Elementary classroom in Emporia, KS. I look forward to continuing my growth in education for many years to come! |
